Bug-eyed apple monster - For the eyes, press a piece of black licorice or a gum drop into the hole of a Life Saver on the side with the letters facing out. Then firmly press the Life Saver, blank side facing out, into a marshmallow. (Cut a small indentation in the marshmallow if you have difficulty making the Life Saver adhere.) For the base and mouth, cut an apple in half and remove the stem. Place the apple cut-side down. Using a large knife, make a long incision into the apple just above the cut side, and then make another incision about 1/2 inch higher, angling down so that you cut out a wedge. Use slivered almonds, pine nuts or similar nuts to press "teeth" into the apple flesh that was exposed when you removed the wedge. Attach the eyes to the base using pretzel sticks, wooden skewers (cut off the pointed end for safety), frozen-dessert sticks or chopsticks.
